Overcoming language barriers in patent searching

On Sunday August 22, 2021, we participated in a talk on using multiligual patent text documents to extract semantic concepts such as chemical compounds at the ACS fall meeting. Examples were given that compare the original publication language, human and machine translations of the patent text when extracting semantic information. In general, while no solution could be regarded as perfect, machine translations perform sufficiently well to all a high recall for extracting chemical information from patent text documents.
